Esta especie de insecto se caracteriza por la secreción de ácido carmínico, utilizado por los antiguos aztecas para producir un tinte carmesí.

  • Information Les cochenilles insectes, Dactylopius coccus Costa, est une espèce cryptique (un taxon qui utilise l’anatomie ou le comportement pour échapper aux prédateurs) et les femelles passent leur vie entière en colonies sur les tiges des figuiers de Barbarie. Cette espèce d’insecte est connue pour la sécrétion d’acide carminique, utilisé par les anciens Aztèques pour produire un colorant pourpre.
