Weather Index Insurance is indemnity based on realizations of a specific weather parameter measured over a predetermined time period at a specific weather station. The insurance can be designed to protect against index realizations that are either too high or too low to cause crop losses, for example, the insurance can be designed to protect against either too much rainfall or too little.
