  • Information A civil right is an enforceable right or privilege, which allows for a remedy if a violation of the right occurs. These rights are commonly understood as a guarantee of equal societal opportunities and protection under the law regardless of race, religion, gender, or other characteristics. Examples include: the right to vote, the right to a fair trial, a right to education, and a right to access government services.
