river connectivity

Definición

  • Information River connectivity refers to the flow, exchange and pathways that move organisms, energy and matter throughout the watershed system. It can be described in four dimensions: longitudinal – when water flows uninterrupted along the length of a river into downstream reaches and connected water courses; lateral – floodplain and wetland connectivity; vertical – hyporheic (below the stream bed) and temporal – many scales; seasonal, multiyear, generational.
