atlases

An atlas is a collection of maps; it is typically a bundle of maps of Earth or of a continent or region of Earth. Advances in astronomy have also resulted in atlases of the celestial sphere or of other planets. Atlases have traditionally been bound into book form, but today, many atlases are in multimedia formats.

Un atlas es una colección sistemática de mapas de diversa índole que contiene una capitulación de distintos temas de conocimiento como la geografía física, la situación socioeconómica, religiosa y política de un territorio concreto. Presentan típicamente mapas de la Tierra o de una región de la Tierra, aunque hay atlas de otros planetas (y sus satélites) en el Sistema Solar.
