  • A medida que el CO2 se disuelve en el agua del mar aumenta el pH del agua, lo que se conoce como acidificación. Los océanos absorben aproximadamente un tercio del CO2 emitido a la atmósfera a partir de la quema de los combustibles fósiles. No obstante, este valioso servicio tiene un elevado costo ecológico, a saber, la acidificación de los océanos.

  • As CO2 dissolves in seawater, the pH of the water decreases, which is called "acidification". The ocean absorbs approximately one third of the CO2 emitted to the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels which results in the acidification of the ocean.

L’océan absorbe un tiers environ du CO2 émis dans l’atmosphère par la combustion des combustibles fossiles. Mais ce précieux service a un coût écologique considérable – l’acidification des océans.
