  • Tabii veya suni, devamlı veya geçici, suları durgun veya akıntılı, tatlı, acı veya tuzlu, denizlerin gelgit hareketlerinin çekilme devresinde altı metreyi geçmeyen derinlikleri kapsayan, başta su kuşları olmak üzere canlıların yaşama ortamı olarak önem taşıyan bütün sular, bataklık, sazlık ve turbiyeler ile bu alanların kıyı kenar çizgisinden itibaren kara tarafına doğru ekolojik açıdan sulak alan kalan yerlerdir.
