The FAO definition of “Beans, Green” for statistical purposes is beans from the genus Phaseolus and Vigna spp. grown for shelling (FAOSTAT code 0414). “String Beans” are defined as beans from the genus Phaseolus vulgaris and Vigna spp and not grown for shelling. Thus, to be consumed in-shell (FAOSTAT code 0423).
