Bovine anaplasmosis results from infection with Anaplasma marginale. A second species, A. centrale, is capable of producing a moderate degree of anaemia, but clinical outbreaks in the field are extremely rare. Anaplasma marginale is responsible for almost all outbreaks of clinical disease.
