Sminthurus viridis prefers legumes such as alfalfa and clover, but attack the seedling stage of many other crops in the family Amaryllidaceae, Urticaceae, Cruciferae, Chenopodiaceae, Polygonaceae, Solanaceae, Asteraceae, and Poaceae.
