"Continuous (=permanent) forest inventory" is a sample plot design in forest inventories in which sample plots are permanently marked (i.e. so that they can be found in follow-up inventories) in order to allow repeat surveys of exactly the same sample plots, which significantly improves the precision of estimating changes.
