Il existe différents types d'upwelling. En ce qui concerne les pêches, le type le plus important est l'upwelling côtier induit par le vent; le mouvement ascendant des eaux résulte de l'action conjointe du vent (le long de la côte) et du phénomène de transport d'Eckman (au large).

  • Information Movimiento ascendente de la aguas profundas, frías y ricas de nutrientes, hacia la superficie del mar, lo que generalmente crea áreas excepcionalmente ricas. Existen varios tipos de corrientes ascendentes (o afloramientos). Respecto a las pesquerías, el tipo más importante es el afloramiento costero inducido por el viento, en el cual el movimiento ascendente resulta de la acción conjunta de la tensión del viento (a lo largo de la costa) y del fenómeno de transporte de Eckman (costa afuera).
