  • Information Cretan date palm (Phoenix theophrasti) is a rare palm species native to Crete and south-western Türkiye. It is one of the only three palms endemic to Europe. Cretan date palm has little commercial value today. Its dates are smaller and less sweet than those of the cultivated date palm but are still consumed locally.
