Environmental charges are paid for the right to use the environment and the purpose for the implementation thereof is to avoid or decrease possible damages related to the use of natural resources, emission of pollutants into the environment and waste disposal.

Les redevances ou taxes environnementales (également appelées prélèvements écologiques) sont des mesures financières imposées par les gouvernements ou les organismes de réglementation pour répondre aux enjeux environnementaux, promouvoir des pratiques durables et encourager la réduction de la pollution.
