Eklem bacaklılar (Arthropoda) şubesi, Mandibulata alt şubesi, Insecta (Hexapoda) sınıfında yer alan, vücut boşluğu bulunan ve vücutları baş, göğüs ve karın olmak üzere üç kısımdan oluşan, üzeri integument adı verilen dış iskelet ile kaplı, segmentli ve ergin döneminde bir çift anten, üç çift bacağa sahip, kanatlı ya da kanatsız omurgasızları içeren, yeryüzündeki hayvan türlerinin 4/5'inden fazlasını oluşturan canlıların genel adı.
