  • Standardized guidelines define features and expressions of different soil parameters and characteristics, such as horizon names, soil types, soil color, or soil texture. These guidelines arose historically on national scales. There are efforts to bring them together internationally, e.g. FAO Guidelines for Soil Description (2006)
