  • Information Sentinel animals are a form of targeted surveillance. In disease monitoring, they comprise groups of unexposed animals that have not been vaccinated and are managed at fixed locations and sampled regularly to detect new infections. The term "sentinel animal" is also used to refer to any non-human animal that can exhibit responses to pollutants before those pollutants significantly impact the ecosystem or human health.
