A patent is an exclusive right granted for an invention, which is a product or a process that provides, in general, a new way of doing something, or offers a new technical solution to a problem. To get a patent, technical information about the invention must be disclosed to the public in a patent application.

Una patente es un derecho exclusivo que se concede sobre una invención. En términos generales, una patente faculta a su titular a decidir si la invención puede ser utilizada por terceros y, en ese caso, de qué forma. Como contrapartida de ese derecho, en el documento de patente publicado, el titular de la patente pone a disposición del público la información técnica relativa a la invención.

Un brevet est un droit exclusif conféré sur une invention. En règle générale, un brevet octroie à son titulaire le droit de décider comment – ou si – l’invention peut être utilisée par des tiers. En contrepartie, le titulaire du brevet met les informations techniques sur l’invention à la disposition du public dans le document de brevet publié.
