DEFINITION

Ulvans are water-soluble sulfated heteropolysaccharides obtained from the cell walls of green marine macroalgae of genus Ulva. Ulva, popularly known as “sea lettuce,” is widely present worldwide and has been used in human food, medicine, and agriculture. In agriculture, ulvans are used to protect plants against a broad range of pathogens under field conditions.
