DEFINITION

  • Ablation is removal or destruction of material from an object by vaporization, chipping, or other erosive processes. In glaciology and meteorology, ablation—the opposite of accumulation—refers to all processes that remove snow, ice, or water from a glacier or snowfield. (en)
