En physique, écart maximal par rapport à la valeur moyenne d’une grandeur soumise à des variations périodiques. Dans la terminologie des marées, différence de hauteur entre une pleine mer ou une basse mer par rapport au niveau moyen. Cette notion ne doit pas être confondue avec le marnage.
