DEFINITION

Ecballium elaterium, also called the squirting cucumber or exploding cucumber is native to Europe, northern Africa, and temperate areas of Asia. It is grown as an ornamental plant elsewhere. This plant, and especially its fruit, is poisonous, containing cucurbitacins.
