High-throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies, also known as next generation sequencing (NGS) or deep sequencing technologies, allow the sequencing of the whole genome and can be used for all types of organisms being of particular interest for non-culturable organisms (e.g. viruses and viroids, and some bacteria, oomycetes and fungi).
