DEFINITION

A silo is a structure for storing bulk materials. Silos are commonly used for bulk storage of grain, coal, cement, carbon black, woodchips, food products and sawdust. In agriculture, a container, structure, pit or covered heap for the storage of grains, tubers, roots; also for ensilage and storage of green fodder, in which case the store is air- and water-tight.
