One of many imaginary lines parallel to the Equator and measured in degrees. The Equator is 0° a latitude and either pole is 90° a latitude; the degree of latitude of an area indicates how far north or south it is. Each degree is divided into 60 minutes, and each minute is divided into 60 seconds.
