DEFINITION

  • Cattle of all ages are susceptible to infection with bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV). BVDV is a single linear positive-stranded RNA virus in the genus Pestivirus of the family Flaviviridae. BVDV infection results in a wide variety of clinical manifestations, including enteric and respiratory disease in any class of cattle or reproductive and fetal disease following infection of a susceptible breeding female. BVDV viruses also cause immune suppression.

  • Les bovins de tous âges sont sensibles à l’infection par le virus de la diarrhée virale bovine (BVDV). Il s’agit d’un virus à ARN simple brin linéaire à polarité positive qui appartient au genre Pestivirus de la famille des Flaviviridae. L’infection à BVDV entraine une grande variété de manifestations cliniques, notamment une atteinte entérique et respiratoire (chez toutes les catégories de bovins) ou une maladie de la reproduction et du fœtus (chez les femelles reproductrices sensibles).
