  • Information Avian influenza is a highly contagious viral disease that affects both domestic and wild birds. Avian influenza viruses have also been isolated, although less frequently, from mammalian species, including humans. This complex disease is caused by viruses divided into multiple subtypes (i.e. H5N1, H5N3, H5N8 etc.) whose genetic characteristics rapidly evolve. The disease occurs worldwide but different subtypes are more prevalent in certain regions than others. The many strains of avian influenza viruses can generally be classified into two categories according to the severity of the disease in poultry:  low pathogenicity avian influenza (LPAI) that typically causes little or no clinical signs; high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) that can cause severe clinical signs and possible high mortality rates. While high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) primarily affects domestic and wild birds, multiple cases have confirmed its occurrence in cattle (Bos taurus). This highly contagious viral disease has also been identified in other wild and domestic mammalian species.

  • Information La influenza aviar (IA) es una enfermedad viral altamente contagiosa que afecta tanto a aves domésticas como silvestres. Aunque con menos frecuencia, también se han identificado virus de influenza aviar en mamíferos, incluso en seres humanos. Esta enfermedad compleja se caracteriza por virus divididos en diversos subtipos, como H5N1, H5N3, H5N8, entre otros, cuyas características genéticas evolucionan rápidamente. Aunque la enfermedad está presente a nivel mundial, la prevalencia de los distintos subtipos varía en diferentes regiones. En términos generales, las diversas variantes del virus de la influenza aviar pueden categorizarse en dos grupos según la gravedad de la enfermedad en las aves de corral: En general, las múltiples cepas del virus de influenza aviar pueden clasificarse en dos categorías en función de la gravedad de la enfermedad en las aves de corral: Influenza aviar de baja patogenicidad (IABP) que, típicamente, causa pocos o ningún signo clínico; Influenza aviar de alta patogenicidad (IAAP) que puede causar signos clínicos graves y, potencialmente, altos índices de mortalidad. Aunque la influenza aviar de alta patogenicidad (IAAP) afecta principalmente a aves domésticas y silvestres, se han confirmado múltiples casos de su aparición en ganado bovino (Bos taurus). Esta enfermedad viral altamente contagiosa también ha sido identificada en otras especies de mamíferos, tanto silvestres como domésticos.

  • Information L’influenza aviaire est une maladie virale hautement contagieuse qui affecte à la fois les oiseaux domestiques et sauvages. Des virus de l’IA ont également été isolés, bien que moins fréquemment, chez des mammifères, dont les humains. Cette maladie complexe est causée par des virus divisés en de multiples sous-types (i.e. H5N1, H5N3, H5N8 …) dont les caractéristiques génétiques évoluent rapidement. La maladie survient au niveau mondial mais différents sous-types sont davantage prévalents dans certaines régions que dans d’autres. Les différentes souches de virus d’influenza aviaire peuvent généralement être classées en deux catégories en fonction de la sévérité de la maladie chez les volailles :  Influenza aviaire faiblement pathogène (IAFP) provoquant généralement peu ou pas de manifestations cliniques ; Influenza aviaire hautement pathogène (IAHP) pouvant entraîner de graves manifestations cliniques et éventuellement des taux de mortalité importants. Bien que l’influenza aviaire hautement pathogène (IAHP) touche principalement les oiseaux domestiques et sauvages, plusieurs cas ont confirmé son apparition chez les bovins (Bos taurus). Cette maladie virale hautement contagieuse a également été identifiée chez d’autres espèces mammifères, domestiques et sauvages.
