El primer Congreso Forestal Mundial se celebró en Roma en 1926 y desde entonces se lleva a cabo normalmente cada seis años. Las reuniones cumplen la función de foro para que los representantes de gobiernos, universidades, sociedad civil y el sector privado intercambien opiniones y experiencias y formulen recomendaciones destinadas a ser aplicadas a niveles regional, nacional y mundial. Asimismo, el Congreso proporciona la oportunidad al sector de presentar un panorama general de la situación de los bosques y el sector forestal, con el fin de distinguir las tendencias, adaptar las políticas y estimular la concienciación entre los encargados de la formulación de políticas, el público y las otras partes interesadas.

Le premier Congrès forestier mondial s'est tenu à Rome en 1926 et les suivants ont normalement eu lieu tous les six ans. Les réunions, qui réunissent des représentants de gouvernements, d'universités, de la société civile et du secteur privé, servent d'instance pour les échanges d'opinions et d'expériences et pour la formulation de recommandations à mettre en œuvre aux niveaux national, régional et mondial. Le congrès fournit aussi l'occasion au secteur privé de présenter un aperçu de l'état des forêts et de la foresterie, afin de détecter des tendances, d'adapter les politiques et de stimuler la prise de conscience parmi les décideurs, le public et les autres parties concernées.

The first World Forestry Congress was held in Rome in 1926 and has generally taken place every six years since then. Gatherings serve as a forum for governments, universities, civil society and the private sector to exchange views and experiences and to formulate recommendations for implementation at national, regional and global levels. The Congress also provides an opportunity for the sector to produce an overview of the state of forests and forestry in order to discern trends, adapt policies and raise awareness of issues among decision-makers, the public and other parties concerned.
