Caprification is a process applied in case female fig fruits of a certain variety require pollination for fruit set. The “profichi” (ilek) fruits of male figs possessing fig wasps (Blastophaga psenes L.) and pollen grains are either hung or placed on female fig trees to pollinate and fertilize the main and second crop (iyilop) fruits.
