Baculoviruses are pathogens that attack insects and other arthropods. Most insect baculoviruses must be eaten by the host to produce an infection, which is typically fatal to the insect. Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) causes one of the most damaging diseases of citrus, devastating epidemics οf which have changed the course of the citrus industry. The term ‘tristeza’, refers to the decline seen in many citrus species when grafted on Citrus aurantium (sour orange) or Citrus limon (lemon) rootstocks.
